Romans 8:28-30
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
A lot of bad things happen. People die. People sin. But its verses like Romans 8:28 that we can rest in as believers. This is why it is important for us to trust in God’s sovereignty: when bad things happen we can rest knowing God is sovereign over all things, and his sovereignty was not, is not, and will never be threatened by an attack of the enemy.
But how can a good God be sovereign over bad things when he promises our good? Verse 29: “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.” This is what God is all about in our lives. Predestination is a controversial idea, but their is one thing we are explicitly predestined to: “to be conformed to the image of his Son.”
To be conformed to the image of Jesus is our good that God has promised to work things for. If you love God and are called according to his purpose, you will be conformed to the image of Christ, and God will use any means necessary to complete the work he started in your life.
So it may hurt. But do not turn on God because you don’t understand what God means by “good.” Instead, rest in the faithfulness of God toward those he foreknew. “And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.”
